2008 Disaster Response Year in Review

Local Red Cross Gets Highest Rating

Each year Red Cross chapters across the nation are evaluated on a variety of organizational strength issues including: service delivery to the public in Health & Safety training, Disaster Relief services, and Services to the Armed Forces. Fundraising, financial management, and governance matters are also evaluated. A scoring formula produces one overall score, and a rating.

Recently, the 2008 performance scorecards were tallied, and chapters were rated as Failing, Needs Improvement, Successful, or Highly Performing. For the second year in a row, our local American Red Cross, the Asheville-Mountain Area Chapter received a "Highly Performing" chapter rating!

"We are very pleased that for a second year, we have demonstrated that we are managing an excellent organization and providing high quality services to the people of Western North Carolina" said Board Chair, Fred West, "thanks to our staff and volunteers for the outstanding job they are doing".

Since July 1st 2008 Asheville Mountain Area Chapter has responded to over 30 single and multi-family fire affecting over 100 individuals. This is a 66% increase over last year. THE POWER TO SAVE A LIFE:

In the event of a cardiac arrest, health and safety figures reveal that the survival rate is 5% if no AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is administered. The chance of survival jumps to 70% if an AED is administered within 5 minutes of onset.
