The Community Services Office at the Asheville-Mountain Area Chapter offers several different programs, free of charge. For more information about any of the programs listed below, please call 828-258-3888 or 800-728-9817.
Medical Equipment Loan Program
Our Chapter operates a medical equipment loan program for individuals needing certain items for short periods of time. Used medical equipment is donated to the Red Cross, which then conducts a thorough evaluation of the equipment. If the equipment meets all of the requirements for use, it is then available to loan to someone needing that particular piece of medical equipment.
Medical equipment accepted and loaned:
Walkers
Canes
Crutches
Wheelchairs
Tub transfers
If you are interested in donating or borrowing any of the medical equipment listed above, please call (828) 258-3888 or toll free (800) 728-9817.
Language Bank
The Asheville-Mountain Area Chapter’s Language Bank is a community outreach service that provides interpreting and translation services to nonprofit health and human service agencies in Buncombe County. Whether the language is Spanish, Russian or French, over 35 Foreign Language Bank volunteers, representing 25 different languages, offer linguistic and cultural skills free of charge to the non-English speaking clients of local nonprofit agencies such as the Buncombe County Health Center, Asheville Preschool, Asheville City Schools and daycares.
If your agency is interested in using the Language Bank, call 258-3888.
Vial of Life Program
The Vial of Life Program is designed to be your voice when you cannot speak for yourself. The vial contains essential medical information about you so that emergency responders and medical professionals can provide appropriate treatment.
If you choose to participate in the program, you will be provided with a medical history form, a vial and a decal. Upon completing the medical history form, it should be placed in the refrigerator. The decal should be placed on the outside of the refrigerator, alerting emergency responders that you have medical information stored in a vial.
This program is free. For more information, call (828) 258-3888, ext. 207
